Reports To: Music Director
Summary:
The Assistant Music Director is responsible for assisting the Music Director in all aspects of the Cantata Singers programing, including assistance in leading rehearsals, mostly sectionals but occasionally full choir. The ideal candidate will have a strong musical background and experience working with choirs.
Job Description
Lead rehearsals and/or performances in the absence of the Music Director
Lead sectional and occasionally full-choir rehearsals during scheduled Sunday evening rehearsals and at other times as needed
Assist with recruiting and training of new singers
Assist with the selection of music
Provide individual instruction to choir members as needed
Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in music or completion of equivalent private instruction and choral conducting experience
Strong choral conducting skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Commitment to excellence in music performance and education and a passion for music
Ideal Qualifications
Advanced degree in voice and/or choral conducting and/or equivalent experience
2 or more years of choral conducting experience
Proficiency with Finale (or other music publishing program)
Piano (or organ) proficiency
Additional Information
This is a part-time, independent contractor position, with most rehearsals Sunday evenings and dress rehearsals and performances held on weekends.
The ideal candidate will be a team player with a positive attitude and a love of working with people.
